Click here to see what is known as 'the world's first photograph.' This is the 'View from the Window at LeGras,' the oldest extant 'heliograph' produced by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce ca 1826. The technique was developed by him in 1822 and involved exposing coated pewter plates to a camera image, using the vapors from heated iodine crystals in order to darken the metal. Niépce teamed up with Louis Daguerre, the inventer of the 'daguerrotype,' in 1829.
